L' Astrolabe - Lirac

L'Astrolabe 2015_edited_edited.jpg

Terroir

The vineyard is planted on North facing hillsides, at the Western end of the appellation Lirac (160m high). The soil is mainly composed of deep sand and sandstones.

Varietal

Mostly Syrah. The vines are 50 years old.

Winemaking and Ageing

The harvest is fully destemmed. The juices are vinified in cement vats with natural yeasts. The ageing is caried out in  old French oak demi-muids  for 12 months.

Why L'Astrolabe ?

The Astrolabe is an ancient instrument that helped sailors navigate through the seas by following the stars.

This logo, displayed on our labels, represents the influence of the cosmos on our biodynamic practices.

Review

The quality of the estate continues to soar and the 2015 Lirac Astrolabe is a unique 100% cuvee that was completely destemmed and aged 12 months in one- to two-year-old demi-muids. It’s a medium full bodied, balanced, shockingly polished and pure Syrah that offers up a terrific perfume of blackraspberries, white pepper, leather and a hint of vanilla. There are just over 400 cases produced and it should be a terrific value.
